Message These bearings are in the order they were removed from the engine, the right-side being cylinder #1 and the left-side being cylinder #6. Although you can only see one half of the bearings here, their mates are also worn just like them.

Rod bearing wear isn't all that interesting, but the pattern of wear surely raises some interesting thoughts.. BTW, this is the bottom-end of my previous build - and an underdrive pulley was used since its first startup - for 16K HARD miles. BTW, the crankshaft is fine - only needs mild micropolishing and can be used again.

My question (which will lead to my own research) is what kind of harmonics is the crankshaft subject to and where are those effects mostly felt when a harmonic dampener is not used?

Perhaps there is another explanation for what we see here - I'm having a hard time coming up with something else that fits with the pattern of wear...
